Strong 3rd Place For Primary Midway Team

Well done to our primary Outlaws who played great badminton last Sunday (3rd March 2019).

A strong Leicestershire team took 1st Place with Warwickshire taking 2nd.

Eight teams took part in the tournament and Nottinghamshire played the following matches.

Win 10 – 0 against Yorkshire 2
Win 7 – 3 against Warwickshire 2
Loss 2 – 8 against Leicestershire
Loss 4 – 6 against Warwickshire 1
Win 6 – 4 against Yorkshire 1

Double Gold for Tom Weron

Congratulations to Tom on his first singles Gold Medal. He kept his cool and fought hard to beat William Jones from Yorkshire 21 16.

To finish the day he went on to beat 3 Yorkshire pairings with Tom Bonser to secure gold in the doubles as well!

U12 Result : Fabulous Finish @ Yorkshire

On Sunday 3rd Feb 2019, the U12 team travelled to Pontefract for two tough tests against Yorkshire 1 and Yorkshire 2 teams. These are the final games Notts will play in this league stage.

Yorkshire 1 was always going to be difficult as they have experienced players competing in the Badminton England Junior competitions. The score was 19-1 to Yorkshire, but as in previous matches our team kept their heads, competed well and never gave up. Livia and Martha took a winning game, Toby and Dylan went to three in the Boys doubles and all the team played really well.

After a spot of lunch and an hour of Notts team games it was time for Yorkshire2. Boom! Off to a great start, with no sign of tired legs, our U12’s won all 4 mixed doubles matches. The scores were close and Josh and Breanna dug deep to bring their win home in 3. Notts took another 3 boys doubles, again very close scores indeed, this was no easy match. Three of the four girls singles all went to three sets, with Notts winning 2 from the 4. Boys and girls doubles provided 6 games to Notts to seal a very very well deserved win of 15-5 to Nottinghamshire.

The team (and parents) should be very pleased with our U12 first venture into Shires league badminton. The team stayed strong and gained experience in the matches they did not win; and they enjoyed their well-deserved wins against Cheshire, Yorkshire 2 and neighbours Derbyshire. Achieving a 50% win rate is fantastic and gives the team a good base to move forward from.

The last 4 games have shown a great team spirt, a desire to do well and a group of youngsters enjoying a sport in a competitive environment.

The remaining Shires matches (for other counties) are due to complete by the end of March and I will post the final county positions when I have them.

U16 Shires win against Lincolnshire

Nottinghamshire U16 county (shires) team achieved a well-deserved 17-3 win against Linconshire today. This was a home match held at Joseph Whittaker Mansfield.

Team members: Matilda Emily Rebecca Lucy Tom B Tom W Cody and Freddie

Whilst the score line is impressive, Lincolnshire were good competitors and our players Fought on to bag the wins. There were many games, rallies and shots which provided enjoyment to players and spectators, irrespective of the winning side. Our players are fair, polite and represented their county well. It was a pleasure to watch all games today and everyone played well – they deserve a big well done!

Player of the match must go to Freddie who stepped in and played so well!

U12 Win @ Home Vs Derbyshire

Nottinghamshire U12 win again!

Wow what a close match it was on Saturday 26th January, when Nottinghamshire took on local rivals Derbyshire at Chilwell Olympia. Notts came out on top by 11 games to 9 to take our second win of the season.

To me, whilst the result may be important, the team spirt, enjoyment and desire to complete are showing through. The players are forming a strong group encouraging and helping each other to succeed. In games that we did not win, and they were very very close, our players took the loss well and moved on.

To demonstrate how close things were, eight matches went to three and of one of these even finished 17-15 – to Notts! There were some brilliant rallies bringing the parents alive, fabulous shots and all games were conducted with fairness.

The team who played in this match where Breanna, Emma, Livia and Martha; Anish, Dylan, Michael and Toby. Anish playing in his debut match for Nottinghamshire.

Thank you for parents who provided positive and encouraging feedback to all players.

This is the fourth match where the U12 Outlaws county team has had coaching support; this time Mick Newton was joined by James Latham. Thank you to both – as you could see the team appreciated your support.

Out next and final matches are against Yorkshire 1 & 2 on Sunday the 3rd Feb. This is an away match and we will have a long day – as we play one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I would like as many players as possible to be able to play in this game. Invitations to be sent out shortly.

U12 Win @ Home Vs Cheshire

Nottinghamshire U12 county (shires) team achieved a well-deserved 17-3 win against Cheshire today. This was a home match held at Joseph Whittaker Mansfield.

Team members: Emma, Elena, Martha, Livia : Toby, Josh, Michael, Dylan

Whilst the score line is impressive, Cheshire provided very good competition and several games were “nail biters” (more for the parents) but our players held their nerve to bag the wins.

It is clear that the team, along with other squad players who did not play today, are gaining in confidence and extending their competitive skills. The hard work that these young players undertake during Outlaws and County coaching shone through today.

There were many games, rallies and shots which provided enjoyment to players and spectators, irrespective of the winning side. Our players are fair, polite and represented their county well. It was a pleasure to watch all games today and everyone played well – they deserve a big well done!

The next U12 match is local derby – Derbyshire. This is on Saturday 26th and availability invitations have been sent out. The team will be selected shortly.

2nd U12 Match Away at Leicestershire

Nottinghamshire’s Under 12 county team headed to Leicestershire today (6th Jan 2019) and came up against an established and strong opposition resulting in a 20 – 0 defeat. We were close to winning a couple of sets and our players again showed skill, determination, teamwork, friendship and fairness.

Our squad is forming and growing with Breanna and Michael representing their county for the first time. Everyone in the team played well and held their head high – which is clearly demonstrated by the post-match photo

A big thank you to Matt Stacey for travelling to Leicester to be with the team and providing great coaching support.

It was a again a pleasure to watch our youngest stars play, there were really good rallies and shots!

First Match for Notts U12 County Team

Nottinghamshire’s youngest members played great badminton against a strong Warwickshire team on Sunday 25th November @ Home (Joseph Whittaker). Whilst the scores (9-1 to Warwickshire) reflected Warwickshire’s experience, our players excelled in skill, determination, teamwork, friendship and fairness.

We had good results and scores too, with a decisive rubber win and 4 three game rubbers and some tense “either way” games. It was clear that the team enjoyed the battle and gained confidence throughout the day.
